Another Pony Cut out of the Herd
« Thread Started on Oct 27, 2009, 7:52pm »

Dorian sits in his office, his feet propped on his desk. his classes are done for the day and he's not expecting any students in for meetings. That doesn't mean that one won't show up, but he is treating the day like he's free. So, Dorian sits and reads leisurely. The Daily Prophet covers his form when he holds it open in front of himself.

He isn't able to focus entirely on reading. He browses the articles, not havin an engrossing interest in anything except the sports section. What is on Dorian's mind is Dahlia. She's been spending a lot of time with Lacy's cousin lately. And generally doing other things that Dorian is not interested in. Right now, he thinks, she should be finishing up classes. Typically Dahlia comes up to his office after her classes are over.

The look on Dorian's face, typically apathetic, begins to take on a sense of annoyance. He's no longer reading, but thinking instead. He's not sure why he's with Dahlia, besides the fact that she is the most likeable person ever to have existed. But he doesn't like the Forest. Giles doesn't seem to like him, which wouldn't be a problem if the man weren't some surrogate father to Dahlia.

Of course, the options left to Dorian are unpleasant. If he ends it with Dahlia then he is the biggest bastard ever to have existed, since everyone will overlook the fact that sweet Dahlia is not heartbroken and in fact may have wanted an end as well. But, just because Dahlia wants an end doesn't mean she should be the one to do it. What kind of horrible filth do you have to be to be dumped by Dahlia Seraphin? Dorian is too apathetic for all this, he knows he hardly cares about what people think, but it's in his head now.

Dahlia has been thinking almost nonstop for about a week. She had of course been thinking before that, but now she is preoccupied with it. She breezes through her classes, paying attention to the students but returning to her thoughts as soon as she is free. When all of her classes are over Dahlia crosses the grounds and heads for the castle.

Normally Dahlia would sit and talk to Dorian in his office until dinner. The would eat together before parting ways. Dorian typically keeps an eye on quidditch practice while Dahlia sits in on after-dinner tea with Lacy and Giles. However, today Dahlia isn't intent on sitting and talking with Dorian too long. She's not sure how to go about getting at what she wants to say, but she does need to say it.

If nothing else, Dahlia knows she has been developing feelings for Ford. She doesn't think it's fair to anyone to let this continue. Although, Dahlia wishes that it hadn't taken her finding someone else to make her reconsider Dorian. She feels like maybe she hasn't been entirely honest with him all this time. on the bright side, she knows Dorian really couldn't care that much about it. Regardless, Dahlia doesn't like the idea that she may be leaving Dorian specifically for someone else, but it is better this way.

When Dahlia arrives in the doorway to Dorian's office she looks him over. She can tell he had been reading the paper, but it has lost tension and folded over on itself. He looks like he may be scowling. Dahlia suspects he may be considering the same things she is. When he finally looks up, Dahlia offers him a smile.

Dorian certainly hadn't been paying attention, he realizes when he sees that the Daily Prophet is slumped lazily on his desk. The sound of Dahlia appearing in the doorway catches his attention. Dorian looks her over. She is leaning against the door frame and smiling, but her smile looks less enthusiastic than usual.

"Hey." Dorian says, folding the paper and setting it on his desk.

"Heyyy." Dahlia answers him, sounding pleasant but slightly off.

Dorian lets out a breath loudly, just staring at Dahlia. She shifts, pursing her lips cutetly despite the obvious awkwardness.

"So..." Dahlia begins.

"Yea." Dorian answers, rather than suggesting she continue.

"Yea..." Dahlia agrees, the same cute awkwardness gracing her voice.

There is a silent moment before Dahlia points out the door, silently suggesting that she may make her exit now. Dorian nods, waving his hands in a shooing motion. He watches as the last bit of pink robe slips out of view. For a moment he is silent. Well, that was easier than he'd expected. Dorian picks up the paper, opening it up again and resuming where he's left off.
