Personality: Despite being like a fish out of water at Hogwarts, Ford is a generally amiable guy. He's learned not to step on peoples' toes, or at least, he thinks he's learned it. He tries not to. It doesn't always work. He can get on peoples' nerves by being a little too coarse and unrefined. He can't help that, though.
What can he say? Life's too short to beat around the bush. He's a blunt sort of person, and polite banter and all that rubbish is a load of shit.
On the other hand, if that doesn't bother you, he's nice enough, especially to kids, and he is deep down really a nice guy. He has a hard time, sometimes, living with the fact that he's done a lot of things he isn't proud of, but at the same time he isn't very big on sharing his emotions, so he won't bother you with it.
These days he has made a habit of asking people a lot of questions. His reactions to things are almost always the sort of reaction a muggle would have to things; most of the magical world is new to him. He knows very few spells and is good at maybe only one (Lumos, he's so badass at that one), and spends much of his day in a perpetual state of mild confusion and bewilderment because of the things going on around him.
He also has an unfortunate habit of cursing in front of his students. He doesn't mean to, he's working on it, really.
Likes: Football (non-American), beer, comics Dislikes: Being on the run, cats not so much, how completely lost he is in the wizarding world, insufferable pricks Secrets: He's still on the run from his muggle past- it's obvious that he spent most of his life as a muggle, but not so obvious why he decided to join the wizarding world.
History: Ford's early life was spent living just outside of London, the only child of Arthur Collins, a banker, and May Collins, a half-blood witch who had fallen in love with Arthur and decided, when they married and had Ford, to begin living life as a muggle for the sake of their family's safety; even then, before the Death Eaters, things weren't entirely safe in the wizarding world for a family with a muggle in it.
She kept in touch with her family, of course, and at home would still use magic when she was sure it was safe, but mainly, May made an easy transition into muggle life for the sake of her husband and son, becoming a secretary as she learned more about the muggle lifestyle, though she aspired to be a teacher.
And so, Ford grew up as a muggle. The only hitch happened when he was four and he decided he didn't want to go to bed, had an all out tantrum about it... and his bed disappeared. Obviously, whatever gene it is that makes a person a witch or a wizard was passed along to Ford. Thus began his slight and informal training in wizardry, from his mother, because Ford never went to Hogwarts, or any wizarding school.
When he was nine, his parents died in a car crash, and Ford went to live with his father's brother, another muggle, in London. When the letter came from Hogwarts for Ford at age eleven, it was quite ignored by both uncle and child, as Ford had no desire to learn any sort of magic. He went to regular, muggle school, graduated, and left home when he was seventeen to strike out on his own. Things went very steadily downhill from there.
Ford quickly fell in with the wrong crowd, when he moved out and got his first job with the post (he didn't really have the qualifications for much else); it was less than a year before he owed some, er, less than savory people some money, and so ended up doing some work that he would rather not have done when they mentioned how old and alone his poor uncle was. Soon enough he was everything from messenger boy to low-grade thug for a small and upcoming crime ring in London, the only real perks being the drugs, but he always ended up owing them more for that, so it wasn't really a perk, looking back, so much as a really fucking stupid idea.
Well, much like most stories like this one, this doesn't end well. There was a girl, of course, and now there isn't. He got engaged to marry a woman named Anne three years or so ago, and due to his mistakes she is now dead, which he doesn't talk about. His uncle, too, died, but of a heart attack, when he was twenty-two. The final straw came the day he found Anne dead in their flat in London, when he refused to kill someone for them. He'd been a makeshift hitman for them before- not really willingly- but he'd done it. This last time... they wanted him to kill a kid. The person they wanted dead was a sixteen year old kid, and Ford wouldn't do it. So they shot Anne, and when they came for him, Ford shot two of them and then fled the country.
It wasn't long ago that he reappeared in England, but this time, in the wizarding community. He has his mother's wand, still. He sort of knows how to use it. He's decided that this is the best place for him to hide, because they're still after him. How could they find him, when he's got fucking magic on his side? So he's learning how to be a proper wizard. It's not really going so well.
Very, very recently, he secured a position at Hogwarts as a professor, of all things. Ridiculous, he knows. But he thinks he might actually be able to do this job. Now if only he could get the hang of this magic thing, he'd be set.

Appearance: Ford is about average height and build, nothing really remarkable about him. He has brown eyes and hair, although his hair can border on red in the right light. He has an easy smile, although he can be seen looking confused or baffled more often than not, these days.
He absolutely will not wear robes. They are the most pansyish thing he has ever seen and he won't touch them. He wears muggle clothes, jeans if he can get away with it. He'll wear a tie and a button-up shirt with jeans and a coat if he finds he won't get in trouble for it; on weekends he won't even go that far. He won't wear anything but sneakers, ever. Picture:

He is totally Lacy's cousin, just pick whether his mom was her mother or father's sister. I imagine his end were sort of the disconnected black sheep side? Since I doubt Ford and Lacy spent a lot of time growing up together.
Dahlia, lulz. Dorian would fight him, maybe, if he weren't so lazy.
Also, I cannot wait for Llewellyn to be in Muggle Studies with Ford teaching. Because as you can imagine there is nothing she likes better than misleading the wizarding folk.

OMG lol I did not think of that. First of all, hurrah for Llewellyn in Muggle Studies with any prof...
And yeah, I assume they were sort of the black sheep. Showed up now and then for holidays. But maybe Lacy could take pity on him being so confused, and that's how he found out they needed a Muggle Studies professor?
How about her mom's his mom's sister? Since he's very not a Ravenclaw and it seems like her whole family is all Ravenclaws forever and ever.

Lol yes, sounds good. Maybe her mother was a little more snooty than Lacy ever realized which was why Ford was never around. That and his mom running off to live only in muggle land. And I think that sounds good, maybe he finds Lacy and she immediately takes him up no questions asked. Her and Dahlia. lol
